The Hotel Plaza is across from FAO Schwarz and offers Central Park at its door step. With its famous afternoon tea at The Palm Court and the museum-like corridors that surround the lobby, this landmark hotel has become as overrun with raucous families as the FAO Schwarz toy store across the street. And while this is fantastic for the Plaza’s lunchtime business, the hotel’s actual guests find themselves sidestepping hyper children and waiting in line at the concierge desk behind a guy who stopped in to ask for directions and to use the bathroom. Admittedly a tourist magnet, the hotel still exudes glamour, from the ballrooms and bathrooms to the restaurants and 9,000 sq. foot spa. The Plaza Shop stocks an array of paraphernalia and chic (translation: overpriced) gifts, and the hotel offers a variety of packages, such as a Bed & Breakfast deal and the kid-friendly, “Eloise Experience.” The guest rooms themselves, which face either Fifth Avenue or Central Park, are classy and comfortable though not any nicer than those in many other hotels on Central Park South. Bottom line— guests looking for the name brand “Plaza experience” will overlook the inconveniences and thoroughly enjoy their stay. Those who want an upscale hotel without the hassle should head for the Ritz Carlton down the street.

The United Nations is the site of some of the most significant events in recent history, from the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 to the unprecedented Millennium Summit in September 2000 that brought together about 150 heads of State and Government. Since 1952, over 37 million people have taken the tour of the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Every year nearly a million visitors from all over the world come through the gates to see the place where world leaders meet and international issues are discussed.
The Empire State Building, one of New York City's main tourist attractions, offers a variety of activities for its visitors. One can tour the Observatory 365 days per year, day and night, rain or shine for breathtaking views of Manhattan and beyond. This photo was taken from the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Night photography of Time Square in New York. At the end of the 19th century, New York City had expanded up to 42nd street and the area was becoming the center of the city's social scene. In 1904, the New York Times built the Times Tower on 43rd street just off Broadway to replace the premises in Downtown. The square facing the building was called the Longacre square, but was soon renamed Times Square. The name is now used for the area between 40th and 53rd street and 6th and 9th avenue. The inauguration of the Times' new headquarters was celebrated with a fireworks display, starting a New Year's eve tradition which still continues today. The first famous ball-lowering from the 1 Times Square's rooftop pole was held on New Year's Eve 1907.

New York's famous Empire State Building, a New York City Landmark and a National Historic Landmark, soars more than a quarter of a mile into the atmosphere above the heart of Manhattan. Located on the 86th floor, 1,050 feet (320 meters) above the city's bustling streets, the Observatory offers panoramic views from within a glass enclosed pavilion and from the surrounding open-air promenade. Since the Observatory opened to the public in 1931, almost 110 million visitors have thrilled to the awe-inspiring vision of the city beneath them.
The European Paintings Rooms at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These rooms are always crowded, and for good reason. The heavyweights on display here alone are worth a trip to the museum: Rembrandt, El Greco, Velázquez, Vermeer. And just down the hall, the walls are awash in blurry brushstrokes; Cézanne, Renoir, Monet, and Pissarro each have dedicated galleries which are adjoined by rooms displaying works by Degas and Manet, as well as sculptures by Rodin, and enormous, glossy-surfaced canvases by Courbet, Cabanel, and the like.
