Arctic Alaska Photography Collection "Northern Alaska"
As Alaska’s visitors cross the Arctic Circle, legend has it that many pilots give the plane a slight “bump” letting passengers know they’ve crossed the legendary circle. Alaska’s Arctic is home to the Inupiat Eskimos, many who still live a subsistence lifestyle and still preserve their history verbally from generation to generation. The Far North is filled with a rich history and natural wonders, from the gold rush days of yore to the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve.

Arctic Alaska offers a view into the remote and rural lifestyle that the inupiaq Alaska natives have been living for hundreads of year. Subsistence food gather, cruel winters, long summers and tradional language mark arctic Alaska one of the most wonderful places in the world. View Alaska Highway Photo Collection>>
The trees were covered with hoar (pronounced horror) frost, an extremely thick frost that looks like it was dripping off the branches. The temperatures was about -20°C. There are two types of freezing frost that look similar, rime frost forms quickly but hoar frost grows slowly and coats the trees and other things in long fur-like ice crystals. Learn more about hoar frost.
