areas at both ends of bridge. Grayling, Dolly Varden. Smith
River Falls, 1.2 mile gravel side road leads to viewpoint
overlooking Smith River Falls. There is a good 1/4 mile trail
to base of falls. Good turnaround area but will be tight if
you are towing.

- km 822.7/mile 511 (HM 533) Coal River Lodge.
- km 823/mile 511.4 Coal River Bridge.
- km 831.6/mile 516.7 Whirlpool Canyon rest area, camping, Short
trail leads to Canyon.
- km 838.6/mile 521 Fireside. Highway Maintenance Camp. Telephone.
Side road to rocky point on Liard River—grayling, Dolly
Varden.

- km 848/mile 527 Parking - portions of old Alaska Highway can
be seen to the west.
- km 880/mile 546.8 Allen's Lookout; large parking area with
picnic tables, toilets.
- km 909/mile 564.8 Contact Creek, rest area. Grayling and Dolly
Varden. Sign about U.S. Army Engineers, some working southward,
others northward, met here on September 24, 1942, marking completion
of the highway.
- km 910/mile 565.5 Parking, historical marker, BC/Yukon Border,
First Crossing. From here to official border crossing, highway
crosses border 7 times.
- km 912/mile 566.7 (HM 590) Contact Creek Lodge . Phone/fax
867 536-2262. Cafe, camping with electric hook-ups, ice and
BC & Yukon fishing licenses, and T-shirts. Tires, minor
repairs, 24 hour towing, and souvenirs. Pressure car wash. Editor's
note: One of the few lodges left on the Alaska Highway that
is operated entirely by one family.
- km 922/mile 573 (HM 596) Iron Creek Lodge, visitor facilities.
- km 937/mile 582.2 Hyland River, parking at north end of bridge.

- km 958/mile 595.3 Lower Post, BC 1 km/.6 mile side road).
Pop. 150, elevation 1,925 ft., was an early-day Hudson's Bay
Company trading outpost.
- km 967/mile 600 BC/Yukon border. Parking.
The British Columbia government has replaced the kilometre posts
in their section of the Alaska Highway. The Yukon has decided
not to renumber their kilometre posts until all construction
work is complete. There is 40 km discrepancy between km 967
and km 1008 at the BC/Yukon border.

trail to Liard Canyon. parking on right and Welcome to Yukon

3 km/2 miles access road, 55 camp sites, water, shelters, beach,
boat launch, hiking trails, playground. Fee area.

- km 1032.3/mile 641.5—Upper Liard River bridge. Fishing
for grayling, Dolly Varden, lake trout, and northern pike in
spring and fall.
- km 1032.6/mile 641.7—Upper Liard Village.
- km 1033/mile 642—Greenway Greens Golf Course.
- km 1033.8/mile 642.4— Albert Creek, parking at south
end of bridge.
- km 1042/mile 647.5—Rantin Lake, stocked fishing lake.
- km 1043/mile 648.1 (HM 649)—Junction of Cassiar Highway
37 and Alaska Highway. This 724
- km/450 mile long highway joins the BC towns of Kitwanga, Stewart,
Dease Lake with the Alaska Highway.
Junction 37 Services . 867-536-2794, fax 867-536-7902. Gas,
diesel, propane, groceries, motel, free RV dump and water, full
hook-ups, campground, restaurant, car wash, showers, laundromat
and cold beer off-sales. Dining room and saloon. One of the
most complete travelers facilities on the highway.
- km 1044/mile 648.7(HM 650) Northern Beaver Post Largest Canadian
inventoried family owned store on the highway.
Baby Nugget RV Park, over 100' pull throughs, full hookups,
15/30/50 amp service, treed sites. Nature walks to lake, good
fishing, birdwatching & hiking. Handicap accessible.
Nugget City, buy your nuggets at Nugget City. New nonsmoking
cabins with private bathrooms, Jacuzzi suites available. Wolf-it
Down Restaurant, home-made meals, on site bakery. Photos

- km 1078.8/mile 670.4 Little Rancheria Creek, parking.
- km 1084.9/mile 674.1 Big Creek bridge. Big Creek wayside and
rest area, day use area just north of bridge Toilets, kitchen
shelters, tables, and water.
- km 1106.2/mile 687.4 Lower Rancheria River, rest area with
toilets just south of bridge. Fishing for grayling and Dolly
Varden. Use small black flies or spinners. Fishing is best in
August.
- km 1118.3/mile 695 Spencer Creek.
- km 1126.5/mile 700 Rest area by Rancheria river.
- km 1128.5/mile 701.2 George's Gorge.
- km 1142.3/mile 710 (HM 710) Rancheria Hotel/Motel, visitor
facilities.

- km 1155/mile 718 Rancheria Falls recreation site, large parking
area, toilets. Editor's note: Well maintained trail and boardwalk
lead to Rancheria River and Falls. 10-minute hike.

- km 1160.6/mile 721 (HM 721) Walker's Continental Divide Lodge.

Lake south of highway has Lake Trout and Whitefish. BC fishing
license required.

Gas, Diesel, propane, towing. Cafe, motel with color TV, campground
with electric hook-ups, showers, laundromat, dump station. Open
year round. Editor's note: Morley River has some of the best
water on the highway as it is drawn from an artisan well.

- km 1273/mile 791 Hays Creek.
- km 1282/mile 796.6 Dawson Peaks Resort . Phone/fax 867-390-2244.
Restaurant featuring home-cooked meals, fresh baking, licensed
lakeview dining. Campground, clean showers, fire pits with free
firewood, gift shop and book store. Guided fishing, boat and
canoe rental. Editor's note: This is one of the best restaurants
on the Alaska Highway. Don't forget to leave room for dessert!
